Future course of action
|
Introduction
of an environmental curriculum in schools. This
plan aims to provide information to students, particularly the middle
school youth, about various ecological issues that affect our world
today. The course could be designed a way that evokes enthusiasm and
participation from students- instead of lectures or boring textbooks
where students are forced to cram page after page of gibberish, we
could instead have interactive sessions and quizzes. Students must
be encouraged to make presentations and talk about issues that they
feel are harming todays world whether it be the state of the
yamuna, water conservation, saving precious natural resources etc.
The objective of this method is to make our future generation more
environment friendly and conscious of their surroundings. Involving colleges through an informal and personal approach. WFY is a youth movement launched by student volunteers and thus they are essential to our cause. We plan establish a one to one contact with students through street plays, wall magazines and personal mobilization. Targeting the residential colonies- Resident Welfare Associations could encourage the populace especially housewives to minimize domestic waste. Garbage could be put in different bins, one for biodegradable materials and one for non-biodegradable materials. In addition to this, one could also involve the servants and the nearby slum dwellers in the campaign for a cleaner environment. Signature campaigns, article campaigns and photo exhibitions and film documentaries could help in sensitizing people. Colonies like Jor Bagh in New Delhi have begun the process of water harvesting. Similar efforts could be initiated with the efforts of the RWAs to start a green brigade. Tackling
the slums. |
